Valley Demo & Recycling LLC - Solid Waste Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft solid waste permit for Valley Demo & Recycling LLC in Nicollet County.
Valley Demo & Recycling LLC has applied for a reissuance of its solid waste permit for its demolition and construction landfill in Courtland Township. The facility is owned and operated by Valley Demolition & Recycling, LLC and accepts construction and demolition materials; incidental non-recyclables such as paper, cardboard, and plastic; and demo-like industrial waste such as wood, concrete, porcelain fixtures, shingles, and window glass. It will be permitted to accept 582,050 cubic yards of waste, with a footprint of 12.9 acres. The site is currently at about 74% capacity with approximately 432,600 cubic yards of waste in place.
The draft permit includes design, operation, and groundwater monitoring requirements. Groundwater monitoring requirements have been updated to match the standard solid waste monitoring lists, including volatile organic compounds, inorganic, metals, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. A requirement has also been added to create and subsequently implement a work plan that addresses the facility’s hydrogeologic and monitoring network issues.
All active landfills, solid waste, and recycling facilities in Minnesota are required to have a solid waste permit. A solid waste permit is good for 10 years. If conditions change and modifications to the permit are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
