Pipestone County - Solid Waste Management Plan
We invite you to comment on the solid waste management plan for Pipestone County.
Pipestone County submitted a SWMP to the MPCA that proposes an integrated solid waste management system. The SWMP states that over the ten-year planning period of 2026-2035, Pipestone County will:
Generate approximately 16,000 tons of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) annually.
Reduce MSW by approximately 1.5 tons annually by collecting laptop computers for reuse and conducting waste reduction audits at local businesses.
Educate residents about proper solid waste management via newspaper articles, social media, websites, and booths at various events.
Achieve a 62% recycling rate (approximately 10,000 tons) by providing curbside source separated collection in incorporated areas and 9 drop sites across the county for rural residents.
The MSW that is not reduced, reused, or recycled (approximately 5,600 tons) will be managed at the Nobles County Landfill near Rushmore, Minnesota, and the Lyon County Landfill near Balaton, Minnesota.
Problem materials such as tires, electronics, appliances, household hazardous waste, and automotive fluids will be collected at the Pipestone County Household Hazardous Waste Facility, private businesses, and via special collections.
