St. Louis River Superfund (Five-Year Review) - Remediation
We invite you to comment on the St. Louis River superfund site five-year review.
This is the fifth five-year review of the St. Louis River superfund site in Duluth, Minnesota. The site consists of two separate locations along the St. Louis River, the United States Steel site and the Interlake, Duluth Tar site. The review includes long-term monitoring information and evaluates results of clean up actions at the sites.
A five-year review is prepared because hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants remain at the sites above levels that allow for unlimited use and unrestricted exposure. The purpose of a five-year review is to evaluate the implementation and performance of a remediation action in order to determine if the action is and will continue to be protective of human health and the environment. The methods, findings, and conclusions of reviews are included in five-year review reports. In addition, the report identifies issues found during the review and recommendations to address them.
