In my humble opinion the MPCA is trying to bully the new landowner into completely unnecessary investigations and cleanups by placing this site on the permanent priories list. The fact is the MPCA has nothing to do and they know for a fact that thi...↓s site is not a risk to human health and safety. The $9 million dollar cleanup of the People's Natural Gas coal gasification plant back in the 1990s, immediately downgradient, has adequately remediated the groundwater and has sufficiently eradicated any human health and safety risks. This is just the MPCA staff's need for "job security". The fact is the site was adequately remediated and even if it wasn't (which it is) they know the responsible party is the DISON FAMILY, of whom still have money to complete the unnecessary investigation that the MPCA is requesting. This is a scam to steal more taxpayer monies so that the MPCA staff can have something to do, without going after the DISON Family. Shameful government nonsense.
If you ask me how I know? I was the field geologist for Dames & Moore from 1990 to 1995 and I worked on the People's Natural gas site for those 5 years. Also, I'm a licensed professional geologist with current knowledge of the site conditions. I have 33 years experience as an Environmental Geologist dealing with the MPCA and I understand their modus operandi and their motivation for "job security". I have been involved with testing the air quality inside the building at 214 North Broadway and can assure everyone that the air quality inside the building in 0.0005% of the permissible exposure limits (PEL) for tetrachloroethane (PCE), better known as PERC the dry-cleaning solvent, as determined by the Federal Occupational health and safety (OSHA). There are no risks to human health and safety from this site and being on the permanent priories list is a flat out WRONG.↓
