Nordwall Estates Homeowners Association - Wastewater Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft wastewater permit for the Nordwall Estates wastewater treatment facility.
The Nordwall Estates Homeowners Association applied for a modification to the water quality permit for construction at its wastewater treatment facility in Baldwin Township, Sherburne County.
Based on the reduction of the potential number of homes that could connect to the facility, the MPCA has agreed to reduce the proposed average wet weather design flow to 17,340 gallons per day.
The draft wastewater permit includes a voluntary construction schedule to install equipment and three new in-ground pressure beds to replace the existing percolating peat pods. The change was made to address the ineffective removal of nitrate in the current treatment process and to meet a limit on nitrogen at the end of the treatment process that this modification adds to the permit.
Water quality permits - or National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits - establish specific limits and requirements to protect Minnesota's surface and groundwater quality. Permits are regularly reviewed and updated as they expire, allowing the MPCA to incorporate new information about the impacts of pollutants on the environment in future permits. Permits are enforced through a combination of self-reporting and compliance monitoring.
