Becker County Solid Waste Management Facility - Solid Waste Permit

We invite you to comment on the draft solid waste permit for Intent to Modify Solid Waste Permit for Becker County Solid Waste Management Facility in Becker County.


Becker County Solid Waste Management has applied for a modification to its solid waste facility permit for its facility located in Detroit Lakes. The facility is a large solid waste management complex that includes burial of demolition debris, transfer of mixed municipal solid waste, collection and sorting of recyclables, storage of wastes prior to beneficial use, and composting of yard waste. The draft permit authorizes an expansion of the area for demolition debris burial. 


All active landfills, solid waste, and recycling facilities in Minnesota are required to have a solid waste permit. A solid waste permit is good for 10 years. If conditions change and modifications to the permit are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
