City of Lake City - Wastewater Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft wastewater permit for the wastewater treatment facility for the City of Lake City.
The City of Lake City applied for a reissued water quality permit for its wastewater treatment facility, which discharges to Lake Pepin. The facility is designed to treat 1.52 million gallons per day.
The draft wastewater permit requires monitoring for sulfates. Monitoring data gathered over the next five-year permit cycle will determine any applicable limits or if additional water quality monitoring is required under a policy intended to protect wild rice waters in the state of Minnesota.
Water quality permits - or National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits - establish specific limits and requirements to protect Minnesota's surface and groundwater quality. Permits are regularly reviewed and updated as they expire, allowing the MPCA to incorporate new information about the impacts of pollutants on the environment in future permits.
