Mississippi River - Lake Pepin Watershed - WRAPS Report
We invite you to comment on the draft Mississippi River – Lake Pepin Tributaries Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) Report Update 2024.
The Mississippi River - Lake Pepin Tributaries Watershed in southeast Minnesota has E. coli bacteria impairments in five stream reaches and a total suspended solids impairment in one stream reach; these reaches were assessed as “impaired” or not meeting water quality standards. In addition, some water resources that already meet standards need additional protection.
The report recommends nutrient reduction strategies as well as total suspended solids reduction strategies including reduced and conservation tillage and stream restoration.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) prepares reports that help direct future restoration or protection work. A WRAPS report uses existing reports, monitoring results, and other information to develop strategies for restoring polluted waters and protecting healthy ones.
