Dakota Area Transfer Inc - Solid Waste Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft solid waste permit for Dakota Area Transfer LLC in Dakota County.
NHCC Properties has applied for a new solid waste facility permit for the proposed Dakota Area Transfer Station in Empire. The facility is designed to transfer up to 297,300 cubic yards of mixed municipal solid waste per year and 70,639 cubic yards of construction and demolition waste per year. It will temporarily store ferrous metal, cardboard, office paper, plastics, mattresses, box springs, furniture, appliances, glass, electronics, single sort materials, concrete, asphalt, brick, shingles, wood waste, and tires. The draft permit allows construction of the facility to begin before the MPCA issues the permit, through the transfer station cannot start operations until then.
All active landfills, transfer stations, composting, and recycling facilities in Minnesota are required to have a solid waste permit. A solid waste permit is good for 10 years. If conditions change and modifications to the permit are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
