Kandiyohi County - Solid Waste Management Plan

We invite you to comment on the solid waste management plan for Kandiyohi County.


Kandiyohi County submitted a solid waste management plan to the MPCA that proposes an integrated solid waste management system. The plan states that over the 10-year planning period of 2023-2033, Kandiyohi County will:

  • Generate approximately 34,000 tons of municipal solid waste annually.
  • Accept waste at the Kandiyohi County Sanitary Landfill for final disposal.
  • Reach a recycling rate of approximately 37% through countywide curbside collection as well as rural drop sites.
  • Facilitate waste reduction, recycling, and segregation of problem wastes from the waste stream.
  • Operate a household hazardous waste collection facility five days a week with drive-through servicing. The household hazardous waste collection facility offers reuse of collected products and offers these services to the surrounding counties.
  • Encourage and support yard waste management at the Kandiyohi Sanitary Landfill and surrounding cities.
