We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for Mayo Medical Center in Rochester.
Mayo Medical Center, a health care facility in Rochester, uses natural gas- and fuel oil-fired boilers and emergency generators to support its operations. Pollutants produced by this equipment include nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide.
The draft air permit authorizes installation of a new turbine with a heat recovery steam generator, a new boiler, and five additional emergency generators. The draft permit also includes new limits for nitrogen oxide emissions and requires installation of monitoring systems to track emissions.
An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
