Cass County - Solid Waste Management Plan
We invite you to comment on the solid waste management plan for Cass County.
Over a 10-year planning period of 2024-2034, Cass County projects its population will increase from 30,920 to 32,708 and will generate approximately 17,500 tons of municipal solid waste annually. The solid waste that is not reduced, reused, or recycled will be managed at the Waste Management Elk River Landfill.
The Cass County solid waste management plan will reduce waste generation by engaging with businesses, institutions, residents, and lake associations on waste reduction; hosting fix-it clinics; improving social media outreach; collaborating with educators on experiential learning via facility tours; improving the existing transfer station; and annually surveying businesses on types and quantities of materials being recycled. There are a total of 41 collection sites for recyclables throughout the county, including drop sites and transfer stations. Cass County will achieve the state recycling goal of 35% by 2029.
Minnesota counties and solid waste management districts outside the seven-county metro area are required to prepare and implement detailed solid waste management plans every 10 years. Visit our website for more information about Solid waste management plans.
