East Central Sanitary Landfill - Solid Waste Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft solid waste permit for East Central Sanitary Landfill in Kanabec County.
The East Central Solid Waste Commission operates a landfill on a campus near Mora. The facility accepts municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris from various local sources for permanent disposal. Additionally, the facility collects appliances and tires prior to their transportation off-site for recycling and operates an area for composting yard waste.
The draft permit increases the disposal capacity of the municipal solid waste landfill by 301,549 cubic yards bringing the total permitted municipal solid waste disposal capacity for the facility to 3,577,224 cubic yards. The draft permit also corrects an error related to the disposal capacity of construction and demolition debris. No other changes to the permit are included in this modification.
All active landfills, transfer stations, composting, and recycling facilities in Minnesota are required to have a solid waste permit. A solid waste permit is good for 10 years. If conditions change and modifications to the permit are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
