USG Interiors (Red Wing) - Air Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for USG Interiors in Red Wing.
USG Interiors produces mineral wool at its facility in Red Wing. The facility produces emissions from its melting cupolas and blow chambers.
The draft permit reissues the facility's air quality permit and authorizes construction of newer, more efficient cupolas. The draft air permit limits emissions and requires more frequent testing for pollutants associated with slag and coke combustion and mineral wool blowing.
The draft air permit requires the facility to model particulate emissions based on EPA-approved modeling within one year of permit issuance.
An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
