Chippewa County - Solid Waste Management Plan

We invite you to comment on the solid waste management plan for Chippewa County.


Chippewa County submitted a solid waste management plan to the MPCA that proposes an integrated solid waste management system. The solid waste management plan states that over the 10-year planning period of 2024-2033, Chippewa County will:


  • generate approximately 12,000 tons of municipal solid waste annually
  • send waste for final disposal to the Spruce Ridge, Nobles County and Lyon County Sanitary Landfills, all located in Minnesota
  • reach a recycling rate of approximately 37% through curbside collection as well as centralized drop sites
  • facilitate waste reduction, recycling, and segregation of problem wastes from the waste stream
  • collect household hazardous waste by mobile collection trailer and twice weekly drop off at the regional collection site
  • encourage and support yard waste management through public education and outreach


Minnesota counties and solid waste management districts outside the Twin Cities metro area are required to prepare and implement detailed solid waste management plans every 10 years. Visit our website for more information about Solid waste management plans.
