Mayo Medical Center (Rochester) - Air Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for Mayo Medical Center in Rochester.
Mayo Medical Center, a health care facility in Rochester, uses diesel engines and steam boilers fired by natural gas and diesel to generate electricity and as emergency generators. Pollutants produced by this equipment includes nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. Facility-wide emissions are expected to decrease due to removal of four boilers and two diesel generators from the facility.
The draft permit reissues Mayo Medical Clinic’s operating permit and authorizes two new emergency generators. This permit action is not related to the downtown campus expansion.
An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
