We invite you to comment on the draft wastewater permit for the City of McGregor's wastewater treatment facility.
The City of McGregor applied for a reissued water quality permit under the state’s wastewater pond general permit for its wastewater treatment facility. The facility, which discharges to Aitkin County Ditch 42, is designed to treat 72,900 gallons per day.
The wastewater pond general permit applies to facilities designed to treat no more than 1 million gallons per day and sets facility-specific pollutant limits and monitoring requirements. Eligible facilities can apply for coverage under the general permit at any time during the permit cycle.
As part of McGregor’s notice of coverage under the wastewater pond general permit, the facility will discontinue stream surface water monitoring in County Ditch 5.
Water quality permits - or National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits - establish specific limits and requirements to protect Minnesota's surface and groundwater quality. Permits are regularly reviewed and updated as they expire, allowing the MPCA to incorporate new information about the impacts of pollutants on the environment in future permits. Permits are enforced through a combination of self-reporting and compliance monitoring.
