Minnesota Power - Laskin Energy Center, Hoyt Lakes
We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for Minnesota Power - Laskin Energy Center.
Minnesota Power generates electricity at its Laskin Energy Center near Hoyt Lakes. The facility emits nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide from its two identical natural gas boilers and from one fire pump emergency generator. It also has fugitive emission sources.
The draft permit reissues the facility’s air quality operating permit with an update to include a new fire pump engine. The draft permit limits nitrogen oxides and requires testing for nitrogen oxides and monitoring for carbon monoxide.
An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
