Northern Natural Gas (Farmington) - Air Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for Northern Natural Gas in Farmington.
Northern Natural Gas operates a compressor station in Farmington that pressurizes pipeline natural gas to move it through the pipeline system. The facility has four natural gas-fired turbines that drive gas compressors, one fuel heater, and one natural gas-fired emergency generator. Emissions from the facility are mainly due to the combustion of natural gas.
The draft permit reissues the facility’s air quality permit and does not authorize any construction or new emissions. The draft permit carries forward emission limits and monitoring required by federal and state rules. The draft permit was revised to remove redundant emission limits that were incorrectly included in the previous permit.
An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
