Cliffs Erie (Taconite Harbor Dock) - Air Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for Cliffs Erie - Taconite Harbor Dock.
Cliffs Erie owns and operates the Cliffs Erie Taconite Harbor Dock in Schroeder. The facility uses water spray to control fugitive dust emissions.
The draft air permit reissues the facility’s air quality permit and removes all equipment owned and operated by Minnesota Power that was retired and removed from the facility on March 31, 2023. The draft air permit limits annual limestone and taconite pellet throughput and requires associated recordkeeping to comply with the annual throughput limits.
An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
