City of Credit River (Stonebridge) - Wastewater Permit PREVIEW MODE
We invite you to comment on the draft wastewater permit for Credit River's Stonebridge neighborhood.
The City of Credit River applied for a major modification to its water quality permit for the wastewater treatment facility servicing the Stonebridge neighborhood community. The facility is designed to treat 14,400 gallons per day.
Credit River is upgrading the facility to address Nitrite Plus Nitrate, a contaminant resulting from septic systems, manure, and fertilizers. Irrigation, rain, and snow melt can cause Nitrate Plus Nitrate to move into streams and lakes, as well as groundwater. The draft permit reflects those changes to meet the Nitrite Plus Nitrate limit of 10 milligrams per liter (mg/L).
Water quality permits - or National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits - establish specific limits and requirements to protect Minnesota's surface and groundwater quality. Permits are regularly reviewed and updated as they expire, allowing the MPCA to incorporate new information about the impacts of pollutants on the environment in future permits. Permits are enforced through a combination of self-reporting and compliance monitoring.
