Carley Foundry - Air Permit

We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for Carley Foundry.


Carley Foundry operates an aluminum foundry in Blaine where it creates core molds; melts, pours, and casts metal; and finishes the cast pieces.


The draft air permit adjusts pressure drop limits for several fabric filters that control emissions. This change was made to reflect proper operation of the control devices. The draft permit also includes general updates to reflect current permitting standards and expectations. The draft permit does not authorize any construction or increase of emissions. 


An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
