CHS Fairmont - Air Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for CHS Inc. in Fairmont.
CHS Inc. operates an oilseed processing plant in Fairmont that produces soybean oil and soybean co-products. The facility produces air emissions from the use of mills and extractors used to process soybeans.
The draft air permit authorizes the replacement of three underground hexane process tanks with larger tanks to allow for a longer useful tank life. The draft air permit limits volatile organic compound emissions from the tanks.
An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
