MagIron - Air Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft air quality permit for MagIron in Grand Rapids.
MagIron is a scram mining company and plans to restart the previously named Magnetation Plant 4 (also previously known as ERP Iron Ore LLC Plant 4) located near Grand Rapids. Scram mining is an operation that produces iron concentrates from previously deposited waste rock and tailings. The facility will make use of material handling equipment, such as front-end loaders, crushers, screens, and conveyors.
The draft air permit is a new operating permit for the facility. It authorizes installation of new crushing equipment, limits particulate matter emissions, and requires testing and monitoring for particulate matter emissions.
An air quality operating permit is required for certain existing facilities or the construction of new facilities that have the potential to emit a significant level of any regulated pollutant. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
